Library

Version: This guide describes Parrot Scribe 1.1.0.

Library is the main window for sessions, speakers and settings. It shows a sidebar with folders and filters, a list of sessions and the selected session.

When you open Library, Parrot Scribe shows the newest session, or No Sessions Yet when the library is empty. While you record, the live transcript appears here.

Find a session

Use the Sessions list to search, filter and open work.

• Search sessions by title or content.
• Filter the list from the sidebar, including by folder.
• Put sessions in nested folders and add comments for later retrieval.
• Import audio and video files with File > Import Audio Files… (⌘I) or by dropping files onto Library. Formats include WebM and Opus.
• Right-click selected sessions to move or delete them, or rename a single session.

Search covers the whole library and can match transcript text, session IDs, titles, comments and speaker names. If some sessions cannot be read, Library shows the available ones with a notice; see Library Recovery Errors.

Read a session

Select a session. The detail column shows the transcript, a timeline of who spoke when, playback controls when audio is retained, and session info.

• Play retained audio while you read. Playback highlights the words being spoken when word timings are available, including two overlapping speakers.
• Click the timeline to move the playhead. Zoom and pan the timeline to look closer.
• Choose a playback speed from 0.5x to 2x.
• With Library content focused, press Space to play or pause. Press ← or → to skip 5 seconds; hold Shift to skip 30 seconds.

Microphone and system audio stay separate: each paragraph keeps its own input and timestamp.

Edit a recording

Retained audio can be edited from the timeline, the toolbar or the Edit menu:

• Split at Playhead (⌘B) makes two sessions.
• Remove Before Playhead and Remove After Playhead trim one end.
• Mark a range with Set Selection Start (I) and Set Selection End (O), then choose Remove Selection or Trim to Selection.

Undo (⌘Z) and Redo (⇧⌘Z) name the edit they reverse.

Export

Choose Export in the session toolbar or the File menu, then pick Markdown or Plain Text. You choose the format each time. Folders and the whole library can be exported the same way.

With retained audio, export the session or a selected range as a WAV file. Exports are plaintext files at the destination you choose.

Speakers

The Speakers section lists the people you have named. Select one to rename, merge, move to a folder, export a summary, remove, or review session history. See Managing Speakers.

For first-time naming of generic labels, open the session and choose Identify Speakers. See Speaker Recognition.

When a paragraph is assigned to the wrong person, right-click it and choose Identify As…. Choose an existing speaker, New Speaker…, or Mark as unassigned. This works for both microphone and system audio.
