Understanding Device Limits

Personal use is free on each Mac and has no paid-device limit.

  • Pro: Up to five active devices.
  • Organization and legacy licenses: The device limit issued with the license.

When device management is available for an active license, Parrot Scribe shows its usage under Settings > License.

What Counts as a Device?

Each unique Mac counts as one device:

  • Reinstalling macOS on the same Mac does not create a new device.
  • Upgrading macOS does not create a new device.
  • A new Mac uses another device slot.
  • Each virtual machine installation uses a separate device slot.

Reaching Your Limit

If activation reports that all device slots are in use:

  1. Open Settings > License > Manage on an activated Mac and deactivate a device you no longer use.
  2. Activate the license on the new Mac.

If you no longer have access to an activated Mac, contact support with the license email address.

Best Practices

  • Deactivate a licensed Mac before selling or giving it away.
  • Use one license slot only where you need the licensed features. Personal use remains available without activation.
