Understanding Device Limits

Personal use is free on each Mac and has no paid-device limit.

• Pro: Up to five active devices.
• Organization and legacy licenses: The device limit issued with the license.

Open Settings > License and choose Manage devices to read the current device list and usage from the license service. This requires an internet connection. A managed license may reserve device changes for its owner.

What Counts as a Device?

The license service identifies each Mac by its hardware identity. Reinstalling Parrot Scribe or updating macOS on the same Mac does not create another hardware identity. A different Mac uses another device slot.

Reaching Your Limit

If activation reports that all device slots are in use:

1. Open Settings > License. On an unactivated Mac, paste your license key first.
2. Choose Manage devices.
3. Find a Mac you no longer need on this license and choose Deactivate beside it.
4. Check the named device in the confirmation, then confirm or choose Cancel.
5. Activate Pro on the new Mac.

You can manage an eligible license using its key without first activating it on the new Mac. A device that changed or a permission that is no longer available can cause removal to be refused. Choose Manage devices again to reload the list.

If device management is unavailable for your license, contact its owner or support using the license email address.

Deactivating This Mac or Another Mac

Removing an activation frees its device slot. It does not delete recordings or settings.

On this Mac, removing its active license clears the saved activation and returns the app to Free. Removing an activation for a different license preserves the license currently active here. You can activate Pro again with your key.

Removing another Mac from the list does not wipe its locally saved key or immediately end cached offline Pro access. That Mac can activate again with its retained key.

Before selling, giving away or retiring a Mac you can still access, deactivate it on that Mac while it remains listed. If it was already removed remotely and still shows Pro, contact support for guidance.

If removal or local cleanup cannot be confirmed, follow the app's error message and check the current device list and license status. Contact support if the state remains unclear.
