Permissions

Version: This guide describes Parrot Scribe 1.1.0.

Required Permissions

Parrot Scribe needs macOS permission for each audio source you enable in Settings > Sources. Without it, that source is not transcribed. The Permissions window shows the state of both and offers Check Again.

Microphone Permission

Symptom

• No transcription when speaking
• A message asks you to allow microphone access

Fix

1. Open System Settings.
2. Go to Privacy & Security > Microphone.
3. Enable Parrot Scribe.
4. Return to Parrot Scribe and choose Check Again.

If macOS reports that microphone access is restricted, the person who manages this Mac needs to allow it.

If Parrot Scribe isn't listed

1. Quit Parrot Scribe from its menu bar icon.
2. Open Parrot Scribe again and start listening.
3. Click OK when macOS asks for permission.

Screen & System Audio Recording Permission

Parrot Scribe uses this permission to capture audio playing through your Mac.

Symptom

• Your microphone works but other people in a call are missing
• The app asks you to enable Screen & System Audio Recording

Fix

1. Open System Settings.
2. Go to Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
3. Enable Parrot Scribe.
4. If access still appears off, quit and reopen Parrot Scribe.

Still Having Issues?

If permissions are granted but still not working:

1. Turn the permission off in System Settings.
2. Quit Parrot Scribe from its menu bar icon and open it again.
3. Grant the permission again when prompted.
4. Quit and reopen Parrot Scribe once more.
