How Licensing Works

Personal use is free and requires no license. Buying Pro in the app activates the Mac you buy on. Other Macs activate with the license key from your email.

• Pro supports up to five active devices.
• Organization and legacy licenses keep the device limit they were issued with.
• Where the license allows it, you can deactivate a Mac to free its slot, from that Mac or from another one.
• License recovery uses the registered email address.

Activating a Device

First Activation

1. Open Parrot Scribe on the Mac.
2. Open the activation link in your license email, or open Settings > License and paste the key into License key.
3. Choose Activate Pro.

Additional Devices

If the license has a free device slot, repeat these steps on each Mac. If all slots are in use, see Device Limits.

Checking Your License

Settings > License shows whether Pro is active, the license expiry date or No expiry date, and Activated devices: [used] of [limit] when the license service reports them. Manage devices reads the current device list from the license service and needs an internet connection. If the list cannot be read, for example while offline, the pane shows Device management could not be confirmed. Check your devices before trying again.

Deactivating a Device

To free a device slot:

1. Open Settings > License and choose Manage devices. On a Mac without an activation, paste the license key first.
2. Find the Mac in the list. This Mac marks the one you are using.
3. Choose Deactivate beside it.
4. Check the device name in Deactivate Device?, then choose Deactivate or Cancel.

Deactivating frees the slot. It does not delete recordings or settings. If you deactivate this Mac's active license, this Mac returns to Free. Another Mac you deactivate this way can keep cached Pro access and can activate again with the key; to keep it deactivated, also deactivate it on that Mac.

Deactivate appears only where the license allows it. For organization licenses and others whose owner manages devices, the list says so, shows no Deactivate buttons, and changes go through the owner.

Transferring to a New Mac

1. If you can still use the old Mac, open Settings > License > Manage devices there and deactivate This Mac.
2. Activate the license on the new Mac.

If the old Mac is not at hand, paste the key on the new Mac, choose Manage devices, deactivate the old Mac, then choose Activate Pro.

Lost Access to a Device?

If the old Mac was sold, stolen or no longer works, remove it with Manage devices on another Mac using the license key. If device management is unavailable for your license, contact its owner or support using the license email address.
